EARLY PRIMITIVE HANGING BUTTER SCALES

Here is a great pair of primitive hanging 1800's Buttery Scales, found in New England.

I find them to be quite appealing and unique in many ways. First, the form of the balance arm is similar to an arrow. And secondly the primitive wooden scales are shaped like slightly canted rounded plates.

On each side of the arm, there are well worn holes where the wooden scales were hung and balanced. They (each) measure about 10" in diameter, one of which retains OLD wire rapairs, which I love...right up there with that much needed mouse hole. Although it would be next to impossible, I believe the hanging twine to be original, so it may have been restored many years ago.

What a great hard to find, fun and very early primitive!($395)
