EARLY TIN FLATBACK SHEEP COOKIE CUTTER - PENNSYLVANIA

I am offering for your consideration an early tin flatback Sheep cookie cutter.

A "Flatback" cookie cutter is the forerunner of the later ones made with a handle. They do not have a handle, nor did they ever have one! They were made with a hole, at times somewhat large, in the flat tin backer. They would have been handled by either the edge of the tin backer or the hole, depending on its size.

This piece measures 2" tall x just over 3 1/2" wide. Though it is diminutive in size, the form is quite unique. Love this little guy!

Pennsylvania origin.($58)
